Your Rugged Luxury experience begins with your arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). A member of our team will be waiting to greet you and provide expedited transportation to our five-star accommodations. Dinner is served at the hotel, and the evening is yours to rest and recover before the full group meets tomorrow.
Overnight at a five-star, luxury lodge in Arusha. -
After breakfast, you will meet your guides and fellow climbers for a thorough expedition briefing. We'll review gear, weigh duffel bags, and walk through key safety and logistics protocols to ensure you are fully prepared for the climb.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit a nearby coffee estate and waterfall. This tour takes you to the spectacular Materuni Waterfall along the Mware River. Then tour through the farm’s working fields and processing facilities, offering a firsthand look at the craft behind Tanzania’s renowned coffee.
This evening, we gather for our welcome dinner, an opportunity to connect with the team, share stories, and set the tone for the journey ahead.

After breakfast and final checks, we depart Arusha for the mountain. A scenic two-hour drive brings us to Machame Gate (1,800m), the starting point of our Kilimanjaro climb.
We begin in the montane rainforest, where the path climbs steadily beneath tall tree ferns and moss-covered trees. Birdsong fills the air, bright flowers line the trail, and with some luck, you may spot colobus or blue monkeys moving through the canopy.
As we gain elevation, the forest gradually gives way to open heather moorland. By late afternoon, you arrive at Machame Camp (2,850m / 9,350ft). Enjoy a hot dinner and retreat to your private tent as the rhythm of the mountain begins to set in.

-
After enjoying a warm breakfast prepared by your camp chef, we begin a steady ascent into alpine moorland. The trail crosses a small valley before climbing a rocky ridge with panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. On clear mornings, Mount Meru may also be visible in the distance.
Our trekking continues through a landscape shaped by ancient lava flows, surrounded by hardy helichrysum and giant lobelias. We pause for lunch en route before turning west into a river gorge that climbs gradually onto the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude caldera offering the first glimpse of the Western Breach and its glaciers.
We arrive at Shira Camp (3,810m / 12,500ft) in the afternoon, with time to rest or take an acclimatization hike before dinner.
Overnight at Shira Mountain Tented Camp. -
Today follows the “climb high, sleep low” strategy for acclimatization. We ascend from Shira Plateau into Kilimanjaro’s alpine desert, where rugged terrain meets wide valleys and towering ridges. The Kibo Massif looms ahead as we join the Northern Circuit Trail, reaching a viewpoint over Lava Tower at 15,223 ft (4,640 m).
After pausing to take it all in, we descend into Barranco Valley, an alpine amphitheater rich with giant senecios and lobelias. This longer day (6-8 hours) is rewarded with arrival at Barranco Camp (3,976 m / 13,044 ft), beneath Barranco Wall.
Overnight at Barranco Mountain Tented Camp -
Today’s route is shorter in distance but packed with excitement. After breakfast, we set out to climb the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep and rocky section that requires hands-on scrambling. While it may look imposing from camp, this climb is often a highlight for many trekkers. The trail zigzags up natural ledges and stone steps carved into the rock, providing expansive views of the Barranco Valley with each step.
At the top, the effort is rewarded with sweeping views of the Karanga Valley and towards the Heim Glacier and the vast Tanzanian plains. The trail continues across undulating volcanic terrain before reaching Karanga Camp (4,000m / 13,123ft). We overnight here by design. Spending additional time at this altitude plays an important role in your acclimatization and overall success on the mountain.

-
Today we ascend into Kilimanjaro’s alpine desert, a high-altitude zone where plant life disappears and the landscape turns stark and rocky. The trail from Karanga Camp climbs steeply over scree slopes toward Barafu Camp (4,660m / 15,288ft), our final camp before summit day.
“Barafu” means “ice” in Swahili, and the name reflects the camp’s exposed position on a windswept ridge. From here, we take in expansive views across the Saddle toward the summit and eastward to Mawenzi Peak.
Once in camp, the focus is on rest, hydration, and preparation. After an early dinner, a briefing on the summit plan, and a final gear check, we encourage as much sleep as possible ahead of the alpine start and final push.
Overnight at Barafu Mountain Tented Camp -
The day begins in the dark. Around 1:00am we start the slow, steady climb through volcanic scree. This section of the journey is the most physically and mentally demanding. The air is cold and thin, but your guides set a deliberate pace, allowing for regular breaks to rest and regroup
You’ll reach Stella Point (18,652 ft / 5,685 m) on the crater rim at dawn, just as the sun rises over Mawenzi Peak and the Tanzanian plains. The final stretch to Uhuru Peak (19,341 ft / 5,895 m), Africa’s highest point, follows the crater rim as you walk above the clouds.
After a champagne toast at the summit, you'll descend to a lower camp, where a helicopter will take you back to the foot of the mountain (weather permitting). This exclusive descent offers a breathtaking aerial view of the glaciers, ridgelines, and route you’ve just completed.
After transferring back to the lodge in Arusha, a hot shower and soft bed mark the close of an extraordinary expedition. If weather conditions delay our descent, we’ll overnight at our Mountain Camp for one final evening under the stars.
Overnight at either a five-star hotel in Arusha or a mountain camp (based on timing) -
If weather conditions delayed your return yesterday, you’ll wake at camp and complete your descent this morning with the scenic helicopter flight, before regrouping in Arusha.
If you returned yesterday, today is yours to rest, recharge and revel in the experience. Linger over breakfast, book a spa treatment, lounge by the pool, or stroll through the lodge’s gardens with coffee in hand. This is a day for quiet reflection, luxurious recovery, and soaking in the feeling of accomplishment.. Take time to reflect, recharge, and celebrate all that you have achieved.
In the evening, we gather for a celebratory farewell dinner, a fine dining experience where stories are shared, toasts are made, and a bond formed in altitude is sealed in style. The mountain may be behind you, but its impact will last a lifetime.
