At Rugged Luxury Expeditions, we handle the details so you can concentrate on the journey ahead. Each expedition is designed with our commitment to high standards of service, safety, and comfort. Below is a list of what is included in your experience and what you will need to arrange on your own.

Climbers can bring one 15 kg / 33 lbs duffel plus their trekking backpack for a total of two bags.

  • Before & After Your Climb:

    • Airport VIP arrivals and customs clearance

    • Transfers to and from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

    • Accommodation in a five-star lodge in Arusha

    • Single occupancy private rooms (or shared for couples)

    • All team meals listed on the itinerary

    • Welcome Dinner and Farewell Cultural Celebration

    • Coffee & Culture Tour

    On the Mountain:

    • All Kilimanjaro National Park permits and fees

    • Professional guiding team

    • Expert lead mountaineering guide

    • Personal porter, who will carry up to 15 kg of your gear

    • Private chef and gourmet meals on the mountain (all dietary needs accommodated)

    • All beverages during the climb (filtered water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate)

    • Spacious sleeping tents with cots and solar lighting

    • Sleeping bag (option to bring your own)

    • Dining tents, seating, portable toilets, and hot showers

    • Massage service at camp

    • Safety equipment, including:

      • ALTOX Personal Oxygen System for summit day,

      • First aid kits and daily medical checks

      • Satellite radio communication system

    • AMREF emergency evacuation coverage

    • Scenic helicopter descent (weather permitting)

    • Device charging (solar-powered)

    • Champagne celebration at the summit

    Crew & Support:

    • Dedicated Rugged Luxury Expedition Concierge for planning, logistics, training, and trip support

    • Full expedition team: lead guide, assistant guides, camp master, porters, cooks

    • Flights to and from Tanzania

    • Tanzanian visa and any applicable entrance fees

    • Associated travel expenses, including visa, passport, reciprocity fees, vaccination charges, excess baggage

    • Optional excursions not included in the itinerary or additional days before or after the scheduled program

    • Trip insurance policy that includes climbing up to 6000m, medical, evacuation, interruption, and cancellation

    • Personal climbing gear, clothing, and toiletries (see our gear list for guidance)

    • Personal sundries including personal snacks, alcoholic beverages, mini bar, laundry services, third-party internet, medical expenses, gratuities

    • Non-team meals

    • Third party party cell service / Wi-Fi coverage

    • Costs incurred due to unforeseen delays or disruptions (e.g., weather, political events, natural disasters, etc.).

    • Early departure costs (evacuation fees, transport, extra hotel nights, flight changes, etc.)

    • Unused contingency days at the end of your program. (We highly recommend that while you should plan to be away from home for the entire duration of the expedition, including contingency days, you book a flexible return airfare so you can move your flight forward if you don’t use all of the contingency days or push it back as you need.)

    • Porter tip pool (required; final amount determined seasonally)

    • Guide gratuities (customary but optional)

    • 3-day, 2-night African Safari to the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area
