Two Teams on the Trail: Pheriche and Namche Bazaar Updates

Here is the latest from our two teams trekking to Everest Base Camp through the Khumbu Valley.

Team 1 is moving deeper into the mountains. Yesterday, they made it above the vegetation line and followed the valley to Pheriche (14,340 ft / 4,371 m), a small Sherpa outpost in the high Himalayas. Snow fell in the evening.

Today is a rest and acclimatization day with a hike to the ridgeline, where the views of Ama Dablam open up as a reward for the effort. In the afternoon, the team plans to visit the Himalayan Rescue Association clinic, where doctors staffing this remote outpost share their knowledge of high-altitude medicine.

Meanwhile, Team 2 is just getting started. Yesterday, they trekked from Phakding (8,563 ft / 2,610 m) to Namche Bazaar (11,286 ft / 3,440 m), crossing glacial rivers on the Hillary Suspension Bridge before ascending the famous Namche Hill into the Sherpa capital of the world. Today is their first rest and acclimatization day, with a gentle hike to Thamo Monastery, a 300-year-old site above the valley.

And finally, our 3rd wave of Rugged Luxury Everest Base Camp trekkers will begin arriving in Kathmandu tomorrow.
