Trekkers visit Tengboche Monastery & 2nd Team Arrives in Kathmandu

It was a big day in Kathmandu as our 2nd team of Rugged Luxury Everest Base Camp trekkers gathered for gear checks and a briefing with their guide, "Big" Tendi Sherpa. This team will be under the leadership of Tendi, who is a 4x Everest summiteer, legendary guide, and mountain instructor who has helped train an entire generation of Nepali mountain guides.

Today, they are headed to Lukla to begin their trek.

Our 1st team of trekkers is making great progress on the trail. On Saturday, the team took a full day to rest in Namche Bazaar to allow their bodies to continue acclimatizing. It was a snowy day in town, so the team explored Namche, visiting the small Sherpa museum and stopping for lunch at Sherpa Barista.

On Sunday, the team trekked to Deboche (12,533 ft / 3,820 m), and along the way, Ama Dablam dominated the skyline. This iconic peak is often called the most beautiful mountain in the world, and it's pretty clear why it's earned that title from the images below. The team also welcomed the bluebird skies and took a relaxing lunch on the trail. That evening, the team settled in for a warm dinner with ample time for rest and recovery.

Monday was another strategic rest day with a visit to Tengboche Monastery, widely heralded as the most famous and stunning monastery in the Khumbu region. Perched above the valley with Ama Dablam rising directly behind it, the monastery has stood here for over 300 years. The team received blessings from the Tibetan Buddhist monks for the journey ahead.
