Exploring the Sacred Valley in Peru
Our Machu Picchu trekkers spent the day exploring the Sacred Valley, with a focus on discovering the region’s landscape, history, and living traditions. After breakfast, the group set out to visit Moray, a series of circular stone terraces carved into the earth and believed to have been used by the Incas for agricultural experimentation.
From there, the day continued to the Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of shallow salt pools cascade down the mountainside. The site is still actively harvested, offering a tangible connection between ancient practices and present-day life in the valley.
The day was relaxed, with ample time for the team to walk, observe, and take in the surroundings. Lunch was enjoyed in the valley before returning to the hotel.
By late afternoon, the team took time to rest, repack, and prepare for their transition to the Inca Trail. The day balanced cultural exploration with essential downtime, setting up a smooth shift from valley exploration to trekking in the days ahead.
