Barranco Wall Done, Summit Next for Kilimanjaro Climbers
After a strong day on the Barranco Wall, our Rugged Luxury Kilimanjaro climbers are now settled in at Karanga Camp, resting, refueling, and recharging in true Rugged Luxury style.
The team was welcomed into camp by our support crew with mountain mocktails made from lime juice, fresh hibiscus syrup, and orange juice, followed by a hearty three-course lunch served in the Big House. From there, it was time to focus on recovery: hot showers, restorative massages, and a high-altitude medicine briefing led by Dr. Brenton. During the session, climbers were introduced to the Gamow Bag and the ALTOX Personal Oxygen System. These tools are available to Rugged Luxury trekkers who want additional support on summit day, helping climbers move more efficiently and stay warmer when conditions demand it.
Tomorrow, the team moves to their final camp, Barafu Camp. Barafu means "ice" in Swahili, a fitting name as the summit comes into view. Sitting at 4,673 meters / 15,330 feet, Barafu is the last stop before the summit bid on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Caroline Pemberton shared this update from the mountain: "The team feels strong and ready, with good food, good sleep, and a great team working together." Exactly what we like to hear on the eve of a summit push.
